Area of a triangle

Every triangle is half of a parallelogram. We know the formula to find the area of a parallelogram is base times height. So the formula for the area of a triangle is half the area of a parallelogram. The formula for area of a triangle is base times height divided by 2.

Formula for area of a triangle is: b x h / 2

Here's a link on area of a triangle.

Area of Parallelogram

To find the area of a parallelogram you have to to use a formula. That formula is base times height.

FORMULA: b x h

Base -any side of a closed 2 dimensional figure/shape.
         -common symbol is b.
Height -the perpendicular distance from the base to the opposite side.
            -common symbol is h.

Parallelogram

Parallelogram- a four sided figure with opposite sides parallel and equal in length.

Perpendicular Bisector

Perpendicular- lines in the same plane that intersect at 90 degree angles.
Bisector- a line that divides another line segment in half and meets at right angle.
-equal line segments are shown with hash marks.
Perpendicular Bisector- a line that divides another line segment in half and meets at right angle.
-equal line segments are shown with hash marks.

Circumference

Circumference- is the perimeter of a circle. Distance around the circle.

Formula for circumference:
C=2πr
C=πd

Prime Factors

Prime- number with only 2 factors 1 and itself.
Factors- goes into a number with no remainder.

Here's a video about Prime Factors of a number.

What's a numerator?

A numerator is the top number of a fraction this tells us how many parts of the whole we have or dealing with.

Example:

What's a denominator?

A denominator is the bottom number of a fraction that tells us how many equal parts the whole is divided into.

Example.

Here's a video about the numerator and denominator.

Improper Fraction

An improper fraction is a fraction that has a greater numerator than the denominator

Question 4

Show how to find each amount:
Make a ratio table. Whatever you do to the left you do to the right.

4 a: Find 10% of 25

I first divided 100 by 10 and equals to 10. Whatever I do to the left I do to the right. So I divided 25 by ten it gave me 2.5. 10% of 25 is 2.5.

4 b: Find 25% of 84

I first divided 100 by 4 and equals to 25. Whatever I do to the left I do to the right. So I divided 84 by 4 and equals to 21. 25% of 84 is 21.

4 c: Find 50% of 98

I first divided 100 by 2 and equals to 50. Whatever I do to the left I do to the right. So, I divided 98 by 2 it equals to 49. 50% of 98 is 49.

4 d: Find 75% of 124

I first divided 100 by 4 equals to 25. Then I multiplied 25 by 3 which equals to 75. Whatever I do to the left I do to the right. So, I divided 124 by 4 equals to 31. Then I multiplied 31 by 3 equals to 93. 75% of 124 is 93.

Fractions to decimal number

Use a calculator to change each fraction to a decimal number. Round to the place value indicated.

A decimal number is always out of 1. Whatever you do to the bottom you do to the top.

Step 1: Divide the denominator to itself that would give you one.
Step 2: Then divide the denominator to the numerator, which will give you a decimal number.
Step 3: Then round it to the place value indicated.

Question: 6 a: Round to the tenths place.

I took out one four from the decimal because you have to round it to the tenths and four is lower than five so it has to stay. If it was higher than five the digit in the tenths place would increase by one.

Question 6 b:
Round to the thousandths place.

171÷ 280= 0.61071429 I looked at the digit in the ten thousandths place and it was seven, and seven is over five so the zero is increased by one.

Question 6 c: Round to the hundredths place.

43÷60=0.71666667 I looked at the digit in the thousandths place and it was a six, and six is over five so the digit in the hundredths place increased by one.

Question 6 d: Round to the thousandths place.

19÷313=0.06070288 I looked at the digit in the ten thousandths place and it was seven, and seven is over five so the digit is increased by one.

Converting fractions, decimals, and percents

Fraction:

eg. 1/2 , 3/4 , 5/3 etc.
Not 30%, 0.1, 0.5/3

Decimals:

eg. 0.1/1, 0.5/1, 0.375/1
eg. 6/1 = 6 = 6.0

Percents:
eg. 60%, 60/100, 54.7%, 54.5/100

Order Of Operations

How to answer today's equation:

Step 1: Look for brackets. Answer them first, then re-write the question. For this question there are no brackets.
Step 2: Look for exponents. Answer them second, then re-write the question again. In this question doesn't have exponents.
Step 3: Look for division or multiplication from left to right. Answer them third. For this question you'll have to answer 4x3=12 first then re-write everything on another line and answer 12÷2=6.
Step 4: Look for addition or subtraction from left to right. Answer them last. For this question you'll have to answer 12+6=18.
Step 5: When you get the answer write it down on a new line and draw a square around it.
